The knocking noise over bumps: front control arm bushings
If your Range Rover Sport has developed a knock or clunk from the front end over driveways and expansion joints, we can usually tell you the answer before the car is on the lift. The front lower forward and front lower rearward control arm bushings crack, split and separate — it is the most frequent repair we perform on this model, across model years.
What matters is doing it properly: replacing the affected arms in pairs rather than one side, and performing a four-wheel alignment afterward. An alignment is not an upsell on this job. Replacing control arms changes the suspension geometry, and skipping the alignment is how you turn a suspension repair into a set of ruined tires.
Coolant leaks: the turbo coolant lines and the cylinder head pipe
Range Rover Sport coolant leaks tend to show up in the same two places. The turbo coolant hose O-rings weep, and the cylinder head coolant pipe seeps — often together, and often first noticed as a low coolant message rather than a puddle. The other common source is the water pump and thermostat housing, which on these engines frequently arrives as a check engine light rather than as an overheat.
We pressure-test the system, find the actual source, and perform the correct vacuum-fill procedure afterward. A Range Rover Sport cooling system that is refilled without a proper vacuum fill will trap air, and trapped air is how a repaired car comes back overheating.
Rear brakes wear before the front ones
This surprises a lot of Range Rover Sport owners, and it is worth knowing. On nearly every one we inspect, the rear pads are significantly thinner than the fronts — it is routine to find 7–8mm at the front and 1–3mm at the rear on the same vehicle. If your brake warning light has come on and the fronts still look healthy, the rears are almost certainly the reason.
We measure all four corners and tell you what each one actually reads, so you are deciding from numbers rather than from a recommendation.
Check engine light: what we actually find
The faults we see most often on this model are oxygen sensor circuits, evaporative emissions leaks, water pump failures, fuel pump and fuel pressure faults, and oil pressure sensor codes. A stored code narrows the search — it does not name the part. We read the codes, then test the circuit or component before we recommend replacing anything, so you approve a repair rather than a guess.

We perform the full Land Rover interval schedule — the 20,000, 45,000, 60,000, 95,000 and 115,000 mile services and everything in between — using the correct specification oil, filters and fluids, with the service reminder reset properly afterward.
