Computer Diagnostics in Sherman Oaks
If a warning light is on, a fault keeps coming back, or the car just isn't running right, the first step is finding the cause. We diagnose European makes such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Land Rover and Jaguar, as well as daily drivers like Toyota, and we test before recommending parts.
The equipment we actually use
Here is the diagnostic equipment we use and what each one is for.
Autologic, now Opus IVS. This is the platform built specifically for European marques, and it is the reason an independent shop can do work that otherwise sends you to a dealer. It reaches the manufacturer-level functions — module coding, programming and adaptations — on Land Rover, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, MINI, Audi, Volkswagen and Volvo. It also connects us to a network of marque master technicians when a fault is genuinely unusual, which means a difficult car does not become a car nobody will take on.
Most of the European cars we diagnose are Land Rovers. Our Land Rover and Range Rover page covers the faults we find most often, with separate pages for the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender.
Jaguar check engine lights come next: lean codes that trace to the PCV valve in the valve cover on the supercharged engines, and misfires chased coil, plug and injector on the F-TYPE. See our Jaguar repair page.
Autel. Our broad-coverage platform, used for scanning, live data and bi-directional testing — commanding a component to operate so we can watch whether it actually does, rather than inferring it from a code.
Why the tool is only half of it
A scan tool reads what the car noticed. It does not tell you what caused it. A stored code points at a circuit or a system, and the work is testing that circuit before anything is replaced — which is the difference between a repair you approve and a part you gamble on. Owners who arrive here after somebody else has already replaced two or three parts are usually describing a car that was scanned but never diagnosed.
That is also why the equipment matters more on a European car than on most. Coding and adaptations mean a part fitted correctly still will not work until it is written to the vehicle, and a shop without the right platform either cannot finish the job or has to send you elsewhere to complete it.
More than a check engine light code
Modern cars spread their electronics across many control modules, so we run a full scan of the vehicle rather than reading the engine computer alone, then interpret the stored codes and live data alongside the symptoms you describe. That matters most on cars with complex electronics, such as Jaguar, Land Rover and Maserati, but the same process applies to every make we work on.
